UK Affairs
The UK Affairs Committee is chaired by David Fleming, Director of National Museums Liverpool, and the membership of the Committee includes representatives of national and regional museums, the Museums Association and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council. The role of this committee is to brief NMDC on developments in the wider museum sector and ensure that national museums are properly built into nationwide programmes.
The current key focus of the Committee is the creation and implementation of the National Strategy for Museums. Other priorities are the social impact of museums, collections mobility and the skills agenda. The Committee is working with the Museums Association to improve mobility of collections around the UK by developing sector-wide standard for courier skills.
The work of the UK Affairs Committee builds on the findings of the National Dimensions report published by NMDC in 2004, which highlighted the scale and range of collaboration between national and regional museums. more...
