Collections Information and Audit Officer (Systems)

Working in the Collections Services Department and reporting to the Collections Database and Audit Manager, the Collections Information and Audit Officer (Systems) will assist with the Museum’s documentation, audit, and broader collections management activities. The role will provide collections management and systems support across a range of National Maritime Museum programmes, including the exhibition programmes and storage projects.

Key responsibilities include assisting with collection management database (Mimsy XG) development, data management and uploads and database training and staff support. In addition, a key responsibility will be assisting the Collections Database and Audit Manager with implementation and development of the Museum’s rolling audit programme. This includes setting up and performing the audits, dealing with queries and liaising with staff, updating the collections database and writing reports to analyse compliance with Museum procedures. The role will involve administering and managing the Museums security provision, Fortecho, during the installations and decants. Labelling, marking and recording photography of object will also be a key responsibility to the role, using Photoshop to process the digital images. An additional key element to this role will be to provide documentation and technical support for exhibition and display installations and decants in the National Maritime Museum and Queens House.

The successful candidate will be computer literate with demonstrable practical experience of working with collections management databases. They will have a demonstrable interest in and understanding of museum collections management. Practical experience of working with Museum collections, and excellent interpersonal skills, are essential to this role. They will be enthusiastic and self-motivated, able to work with limited supervision, and able to maintain attention to detail. The successful applicant will be willing to work with flexibility between Museum locations and must be able to undertake physical work with collections.

This is a full time, permanent role in Band 7 – Coordinators. Core hours of work will be 36 per week, working 5 days between the hours of 9am-5pm. On occasion, some flexibility may be required.
