The Visitor and Security Services Department (VSS) works across the Museum to ensure our visitors are able to make the most of their visit. Whether it is managing public safety, selling tickets to exhibitions, providing information on the Museum’s collection or patrolling the Museum to make sure it is safe and secure, our staff are focused on delivering an excellent experience for every visitor and to provide security for the Museum, staff, visitors and one of the most important collections in the world. What are the key responsibilities of the Visitor Welcome First Line Manager role?

As a Visitor Welcome First Line Manager you will play a key role in ensuring that every visitor to the UK’s number one visitor attraction has a unique and fulfilling experience. Managing a team of Visitor Welcome Assistants working across the Museum, you will ensure that visitors feel welcomed, get the information and guidance they need as well as receive a positive sales experience, all while managing operational responsibilities and developing and managing your team.

What might a normal day look like?

You will manage your team in the proactive provision of information, promoting the visitor offer and upselling ticketed activities while achieving outstanding customer service. This will involve effective planning and coordinating of resources, making operational decisions, including emergencies and managing sales, bookings and team performance, all aimed at providing a fulfilling, engaging and safe environment for the Museum’s visitors.

The ideal candidate will be a Visitor Service professional whose skills and experiences are:

Line and operational management
Outstanding customer service delivery
Upselling and cash handling
Managing safety, security and emergency responsibilities
Monitor and manage sales and bookings operational processes
Strong communication skills
Identifying and improving operational delivery with strong attention to detail
Motivating a diverse team
The role is delivered across the Museum’s service delivery areas with our operational staff, rather than a permanent office location.

This role works on a 4 days on, 2 days off working pattern across 7 days a week (8.5 hours per shift Saturday to Thursday and 12 hours per shift Friday, 42 hours average per week). This role works day shifts only.

The post holder will need to hold an SIA Licence, however applicants without a valid SIA licence are encouraged to apply as the Museum will support the right candidates through the training and licencing process.
