Senior Management Accountant: Capital

About the role:

We are looking for a Senior Management Accountant who can work with our high performing team to deliver a first-class management accounting service to the British Museum in relation to capital projects.

You will be responsible for developing and own detailed planning, reporting, forecasting and monitoring mechanisms for significant capital projects including identifying potential problems and proposing solutions, support development of business cases, and embedding strong financial governance and risk management throughout the capital programme.

Key areas of responsibility:

Capital – maintenance of the multi-year capital plan, analysis and preparation of complex information to support decision making, support the Finance Manager on business cases for capital funding, work with non-finance colleagues to improve accuracy and costing of new projects. Ownership of the fixed asset register and improving systems for capital accounting as well as various other activities.
Project work – advise colleagues on Museum wide projects and develop processes for/contribute financial expertise towards these. Provide and review financial information for business cases and funding applications as well as other ad hoc project work as required.
Accounting services and line management – line management of three management accountants, including mentoring and developing them. Preparation of management reports and quarterly forecasts. Support budgeting processes for departments across projects. Coordination of financial information for reports and papers, incl the corporate risk register.

About you:

Educated to degree level or equivalent.
Qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA or other.
Strong knowledge of capital accounting.
Good technical knowledge of relevant regulatory and accounting frameworks (including Accounting Standards, VAT, income tax, NI), IT literacy with strong excel skills and experience of accounting systems.
Audit experience including some post qualification experience.
Experience of project management.
Demonstrable ability to manage a diverse range of individuals and juggle conflicting demands and prioritise personal and team workloads appropriately.
Demonstrate strong judgement and able to handle non-routine problems.
Able to present complex financial information to senior and non-financial staff clearly.
Able to resolve problems effectively and has a flexibility and willingness to take on work as required.
