This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the greatest collections of rare books in the world.

The role is based within the Library's Printed Heritage Collections team, with curatorial responsibility for early books, periodicals and ephemera published across Europe and the Americas, but with a clear focus on British materials. You will work across the broad period 1450-2000, with lead responsibility for material printed from the 17th to 19th centuries.

You will be part of a team that aims to make the Library's rich collections accessible and relevant to as wide a range of people as possible. Working with the Head of Printed Heritage Collections and three other lead curators, you will participate in the management of existing collections and play a major role in their development in line with policies and guidelines, including the administration of an accompanying acquisitions budget. You will work collaboratively across the organisation to interpret heritage materials for a broad range of users, including facilitating research for the academic community; initiating and directing digitisation projects; taking part in the Library’s cultural programmes; and contributing to information on our website aimed at schools and lifelong learners.

This job will suit those with a good knowledge of early print culture in Britain and beyond, within its wider cultural and social context. You will also be aware of the changing landscape in which people use and research printed materials created from 1601 to 1900. This knowledge will be underpinned by relevant professional or academic qualifications. Additionally, you will have experience of employment in a research library, academic or other appropriate environment. The ability to work as part of a team is essential, as is experience of managing colleagues and directing their work.
