Do you have experience of photographing 2D and 3D objects? Would you like to create enhanced photography of objects from the Science Museum collection?

About us

The Science Museum Group (SMG) is here to inspire futures, and our Collection Services department underpin the care and management of our unique objects. In the SMG Photo Studio our vision is to produce images that can weave together extraordinary objects, historical events, and powerful ideas into rich inspiring stories of the innovations and people who have shaped our world.

We are recruiting for a Photographer to join the team on a 6 month, fixed-term contract*. This is a full-time role working 35 hours per week, based at the Science Museum in London, with some hybrid working also available.

About the role

As a Photographer, you will deliver professional photography across a range of services from our studio in London. You will provide a professional, technical, and creative service making digital content for a diverse range of clients and stakeholders within SMG.

Working in the photographic studio, on gallery locations and offsite, you will create enhanced photography of collection objects, copy 2D material from the museum's archives and create on-brand communications photography for external affairs. You will carry out post-production and apply metadata making mages accessible through our Digital Assessment Management System (DAMS) for all users.

*The current length of the fixed term contract for this role is set at 6 months. There is a possibility that this could be extended in the future, however this can't be guaranteed at this stage.

About you

Joining us, you will have experience of photographing 2D and 3D objects and extensive experience of using Capture One, Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Bridge. You will also have knowledge of colour management from capture to output.

Crucially, you will have the necessary planning, organisation and coordinating skills to deliver photography requests on time. You will be able to manage stakeholder relationships effectively, including the ability to communicate technical challenges to clients, using influencing and negotiating skills to ensure successful shoots.

Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
