About us

This position is based at the Science and Innovation Park (SIP) in Wroughton, at the heart of the Park is the National Collections Centre (NCC), home to around 90% of the Science Museum Group (SMG) Collection. The NCC is transforming how we care, manage, and make accessible over 400,000 objects and 1.5m items in our Library and Archive. Our new collections management facility, the Hawking Building, houses everything from microscope slides to railway carriages; more objects are then other facilities across the Park.

We are recruiting for Collections and Logistics Coordinator to join on a fixed-term contracts until December 2025. This is a full-time role, working 35 hours per week and is based at the Science and Innovation Park in Wroughton, Swindon, with hybrid working also available.

About the role

As a Collections and Logistics Coordinator you will provide support to the Group Collections Storage & Logistics Manager, by coordinating the day-to-day activities of collections storage and logistics at the NCC and wider logistics/transport for SMG.

You will oversee a busy programme of collections logistics activities serving our exhibitions and other collections activities. You will manage a team of three Logistics Technicians, setting clear objectives and providing appropriate feedback.

You will be working with objects of a wide range of size, shape and weight, particularly medium and large objects and fragile ones. By producing a timely work programme, you will help to make most effective use of resources, including producing and distributing an accurate weekly schedule of deliveries and collections of objects, including appropriate paperwork in line with procedures.

About you

Joining us, you will have experience of successful planning, and organisational skills in a busy environment. You will have a systematic approach to work planning and programming, with good attention to detail.

Crucially, you will have the ability to complete administrative tasks with accuracy and efficiency with demonstrable decision-making, problem solving and prioritisation skills. You will also be an effective communicator, with the ability to work well as part of a wider team and supervise and train others.
