Do you have experience of handling and moving objects? Are you a confident driver with experience driving in a safe and efficient manner?
About us
The Collections and Logistics team are based at the Science and Innovation Park (SIP) in Wroughton in Swindon. At the heart of the Park is the National Collections Centre (NCC), home to around 90% of the Science Museum Group (SMG) Collection, which consists of everything from microscope slides to railway carriages.
We are recruiting for Collections Handler and Driver to join on a fixed-term contract until December 2025. This is a full-time role, working 35 hours per week and is based at the Science and Innovation Park in Wroughton, Swindon.
About the role
As a Collections Handler and Driver, you will travel across the UK (including some overnight stays) to the other Science Museum Group sites and to external locations to deliver and safely collect a wide variety of objects.
The objects in the Science Museum Group collection are extremely diverse and can vary in many ways such as, in size, weight, material, rarity and shape so if you like the idea of getting 'hands on' and transporting different museum objects then this role is for you.
You will provide storage, logistical and transport expertise, supporting teams across the Group, to safely move and transport objects. You will also be involved in assisting with installing and decanting objects from exhibitions, as well as representing the Science Museum Group to a variety of external stakeholders.
About you
Joining us, you will have experience of handling and moving objects (for example picking and packing) in a safe manner with the ability to use a variety of mechanical manual handling equipment.
Due to the amount of driving you will be doing, you will need to have a driving licence, competence when driving a vehicle with a manual and automatic gearbox and experience of driving in a safe and efficient manner.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
