Programme Coordinator (Children)
Do you have experience of researching, planning and supporting the creation of high-quality public programmes and events? Would you like the opportunity to help drive forward the programmes for children and young people at the Science Museum?
About us
The Science Museum in London aims to inspire visitors with award-winning exhibitions, iconic objects and stories of incredible scientific achievement. The Public Programmes department aim to imagine and bring to life incredible and cutting-edge STEM experiences for a range of visitors.
We are now recruiting for a Programme Coordinator (Children) to join on a permanent contract. This is a full-time role, working 35 hours per week and is based at the Science Museum in London with hybrid working available.
About the role
As Programme Coordinator (Children), you will assist the Programmes Manager (Children) in driving forward the Science Museum's programmes for children and young people. This includes honing our current offer for anyone under the age of 18 (e.g. shows, demonstrations and exhibits in interactive galleries) to be the best it can be. In the future, this will involve piloting new programmes and ensuring our offer continues to evolve and grow with pioneering ideas and new partnerships.
You will assist with developing programmes, events and interactive exhibits and providing administrative support to make these a reality. You will work closely with Assistant Delivery Managers (ADMs) who will be responsible for the on-the-floor delivery and staffing of any programming in the Museum and externally.
For some smaller scale projects, programmes and events, you will take more of a leading role in developing these and working with ADMs to make them a reality. You will supervise volunteers, manage any casual or contracted staff who work on your programmes and own relationships with external partners, as and when necessary. You will prioritise making our content as accessible and equitable as possible, working with colleagues to achieve this and always looking for opportunities to engage our local community with our offer.
About you
Joining us, you will have experience of researching, planning and supporting the creation of high-quality public programmes and events, with particular experience of programming for children and young people. You will also have experience of developing and planning small scale events and programmes.
Crucially, you will have a very good understanding of the needs of audiences, their diversity and their access requirements. You will be able to utilise good communication and interpersonal skills to build productive working relationships, enabling you to supervise and manage casual staff and volunteers. For this role, you will be organised with experience of using Microsoft Office programmes to complete administrative tasks efficiently.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
