Executive Assistant and Senior Administrator

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and pro-active administrative professional to join the Development Department.

In this role, the post holder will provide administrative support to the Director of Development, ensuring the smooth running of the day-to-day administration. The post holder will also support the Development Department with by carrying out office manager duties and by facilitating internal communications across the department.

The British Museum is embarking on one of the most significant cultural redevelopment projects undertaken anywhere in the world. The Masterplan will transform the Museum for the 21st century while staying open, maintaining the founding commitment to keep the collection safe and accessible to the public for generations to come. The Department will play a vital role in enabling the Museum’s vision for the future including playing a key role in the inaugural British Museum Ball in October 2025.

Key areas of responsibility:

The Executive Assistant and Senior Administrator will be responsible for:

• Serving as the main point of contact for the Director of Development, managing communications, emails, phone calls, and correspondence.
• Prioritize and manage the Director of Development’s calendar, including coordinating travel arrangements and handling sensitive scheduling conflicts.
• Assist with managing relationships with key donors, sponsors, and stakeholders, keeping contact details up-to-date in the Raiser’s Edge database.
• Facilitate effective internal communication within the Development Department, ensuring information is shared appropriately across teams.
• Advancing fundraising and support engagement objectives by representing the Museum in a professional manner and assisting the Director of Development with the management of key donor relationships.

About you:

• A level standard English or equivalent
• Proficient with a range of software packages including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, HR and room booking databases.
• Experience drafting correspondence and documents for a knowledgeable and senior audience.
• Able to prioritise and work under pressure.
• Have a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
• Able to act with tact and sensitivity, and to communicate diplomatically in a fast-paced environment.
