About the role
The British Library has an internationally renowned collection of archives and manuscripts which grows year on year. We have an exciting opportunity for a fixed term post to catalogue the archive of the poet and translator, Michael Hamburger.

You will undertake all aspects of the archival process including sorting and appraising, hierarchical arrangement, cataloguing, and foliation. Cataloguing will be carried out to national and international standards. In addition, you will answer specialist reader enquiries relating to the archive and publicise and promote the archives to a range of audiences. You will work closely with colleagues in curatorial, conservation, and corporate information areas.

To be successful in this role, you will possess either a professional archive qualification or equivalent experience in a professional environment. You will have experience of applying national and international standards to manuscripts and/or archive cataloguing, an understanding of the preservation needs of modern archives, an understanding of issues in working with hybrid archives, awareness of relevant legislation and experience of applying it to archive cataloguing, the ability to work with colleagues in other areas, and the ability to work independently and to a high degree of accuracy. You should also have a good reading knowledge of German language.
